Boxes, mini albums, and folded projects
These are the cut files that become objects rather than flat pieces. The tag covers gift and favor boxes including a house box, a take out box, a snowflake box and a cookie box with its insert, Easter baskets in four and six sided versions, mini albums and a pocket foldout, dimensional cards such as a Christmas tree gatefold and a wheel card, and folded pieces like a star ornament, a heart wreath and a snow globe. Most include score lines as well as cut lines, so set your machine to score first and then cut, and choose a cardstock heavy enough to hold a crease without cracking, usually around 65 to 110 pound. Assembly needs nothing more than a bone folder and glue. Pair 3D Project with Christmas for ornaments and gift packaging, or with Easter for baskets. Most do. Score lines come through as a separate layer so your machine creases the folds before cutting. In Cricut Design Space check that the score layer is attached to the cut layer so the two stay aligned.
Around 65 to 110 pound. Lighter stock will not hold a box shape, and much heavier stock cracks along the score unless you fold it carefully with a bone folder.
It helps a great deal but is not essential. A scoring stylus or wheel gives the cleanest fold. Without one you can fold against a metal ruler, though the crease will be softer on the heavier weights.
The straight sided boxes such as the house box and the gift bag are the most forgiving, since a small misalignment still closes. The folded star ornament and the snow globe have more pieces and reward a slower first attempt.
