Cut Files for Scrapbooking

Cut files are vector designs meant to be cut on a Cricut, Silhouette, or similar machine to add as embellishments to a scrapbook page. Sketches are layout references that show where to place photos, titles, journaling, and embellishments on the page itself. Many scrapbookers use both: a sketch to plan the layout, then cut files for the embellishments.

You need a 12 by 12 cutting mat (StandardGrip green or StrongGrip purple) and a machine that handles that size: Cricut Maker, Maker 3, Explore 3, or Silhouette Cameo 4. Smaller machines like the Cricut Joy max out at smaller dimensions and cannot cut full 12 by 12 backgrounds.

Standard 65 to 80 pound cardstock cuts cleanly with a fresh blade and works for most layered designs. Heavier 100 pound cardstock holds detailed cuts (lace, fine florals) without tearing. Patterned paper and metallic cardstock both cut well; use a stronger mat for grippy patterned papers.
